Health Education Programs

Thyroid treatment, cataract surgery and high blood pressure are among the topics for September in Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center's popular health education series.

Paul Stanislaw, Jr., M.D., a facial plastic surgeon, will discuss skincare, injectable fillers and mineral makeup on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Center for Health Enhancement, 35 Nod Road, Avon.

Caner screenings for the well adult will be reviewed by Thomas McLarney, M,D., a family practitioner, on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Community Health Resource Center, 31 Sycamore St., Glastonbury.

Michael Teiger, M.D., a pulmonologist, will explain living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on Thursday, Sept. 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Medical Offices, 137 West Road, Ellington.

Karl Dauphinais, M.D., M.S.S., an internist, will explain how you can enhance your health with a busy lifestyle on Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Center for Health Enhancement, 35 Nod Road, Avon.

Current options for thyroid treatment will be detailed by Jorge Diez, M.D., an endocrinologist, on Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Community Health Resource Center, 7 Elm St., Enfield.

Andrew Epstein, M.D., an ophthalmologist, will discuss the benefits of advanced cataract surgery on Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., at the Enfield Senior Center, 299 Elm St., Enfield.

Understanding high blood pressure will be the subject of a presentation by M.P. Saiyed, M.D., a family practitioner, on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Medical Offices, 137 West Road, Ellington,

Socorro Vargas, M,D., an endocrinologist, will explain common thyroid disorders on Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Medical Offices, 137 West Road, Ellington.

Autism spectrum disorders will be reviewed by John Levine, M.D., a child psychiatrist, on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Mandell Jewish Community Center, 335 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford.

Sound Healing Session Set for Ellington

Program Slated on Smoking Cessation Through Hypnosis

Stroke Prevention/Education Programs Planned

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center will present two stroke education and prevention programs in September: on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Center for Health Enhancement, 35 Nod Road, Avon; and on Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Medical Offices, 137 West Road, Ellington. Participants will learn about risk factors for stroke, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, physical inactivity and diet. Weight Loss Through Hypnosis Sessions Offered

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center will offer three classes on weight loss through hypnosis during September. EFT Series Planned

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center will offer a two-part certificate series on the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) on Thursday, Sept. 16 and Thursday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Hospital, 114 Woodland St., Hartford. Participants will learn the basics of EFT and how it can be used for physical pain, emotional discomfort, weight loss, addictions, anxiety and difficult memories. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Programs Planned for Enfield, Hartford

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center will offer eight-week mindfulness based stress reduction programs in Enfield and Hartford in September. Free introductory sessions will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Community Health Resource Center, 7 Elm St., Enfield, and on Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 6:30 to 8;30 p.m., at the Hospital, 114 Woodland St., Hartford,. Enfield sessions will be held on Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., beginning Sept 28. Hartford sessions will be held on Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., beginning Sept. 29. CPR Classes Slated for Glastonbury, Ellington

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center will offer two CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) classes in September: on Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Community Health Resource Center, 31 Sycamore St., Glastonbury, and on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Saint Francis Care Medical Offices, 137 West Road, Ellington. These American Heart Association classes are intended for the lay rescuer. They teach CPR and choking management for infants, children and adults. There is a $45 fee for each class. Look Good, Feel Better Session Set

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center will present the American Cancer Society's Look Good, Feel Better program for women with cancer on Monday, Sept, 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Hospital, 114 Woodland St., Hartford.
