Youth Programs

- Summer Youth Employment Program
Getting a job is critical to helping inner-city youths be responsible and self-reliant. Using federal and state funds, Saint Francis works with local schools and other community organizations to find employment for Hartford teens.
- Twenty-First Century Fox Academy
In support of a special health and science curriculum, Saint Francis health care professionals work with teachers and parents from Hartford’s Lewis Fox Middle School, providing hands-on learning experiences in our own medical facilities.
- Gray Lodge
This residential treatment center for young women with behavioral issues prepares them for productive lives. Saint Francis staff members serve on the board and assist the center with select programs.
- Youth-United for Survival
Not every Saint Francis outreach program is what you’d expect from a medical facility. To aid Youth-United for Survival, a Hartford agency assisting children who have been exposed to abuse, Saint Francis provides free laundry service.
- Allied Health Career Program
Our children are not only the future of our community, they are the future of health care. This program encourages students from five Greater Hartford school districts to explore careers in the medical field.
- Let’s Not Meet By Accident
Teaching kids about the effects of drinking and driving saves lives. The Saint Francis Emergency Department staff developed this trauma prevention program especially for teenage drivers.
- Lives At Risk
Violence ruins thousands of young lives every year. With help from the Looking In Theatre, our Emergency Department staff runs the Lives At Risk program, presenting the hard facts about the effects of violence and teaching conflict resolution skills.
- Saint Agnes Home
A shelter for single teen mothers, Saint Agnes Home, in West Hartford, receives much-needed support from Saint Francis in the form of in-service training for the institution’s staff as well as nutritional screenings for residents.
- Sickle Cell Program at The Artists’ Collective
Sickle Cell disease is a painful chronic condition that makes play and sports extremely difficult. At The Artists’ Collective, a Hartford-based center for the arts, Saint Francis sponsors classes on "creative movement" for youths afflicted with this condition.
- The Hartford Action Plan
Since the inception of this important program focused on infant health, Saint Francis has supported provider network services for high risk mothers and health educators for special programs in Hartford’s elementary schools. about the effects of violence and teaching conflict resolution skills.
